musings, why yes.

Decade January 7, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — TheDemanda @ 11:13 pm

So my New Year’s Resolution was to blog everyday.

Well, it’s the 7th and I’ve done shit.

It’s been awhile too since I’ve left a rambling on here, thanks to do the death of my graphics card, which is attached to my motherboard…which means McKay the Laptop is in a coma.

Christmas this year was a good one. Got some sweet new stuff, but it was such a busy three days. Weather was horrible on Christmas Eve when we followed Erik and Emily back to Green Bay. We ended up stopping and helping out a teenager that got stuck in the ditch on the side of 141, just a quarter mile from the Work, actually. Couldn’t get her out, but her mom came. Oh, and this Neil Patrick Harris look a like showed up randomly to see if we needed any help. In the middle of this raging freezing rain/blizzard crap.  It was some serious Harold and Kumar shit.

New Year’s sucked though. A few days before, Jon and I got food poisoning, and mine stuck around and turned into a puking fest at my parents on Eve. Not even a drink.

2009 was a crazy ass mofo year. So much happened, so many new people (some good, some bad), new experiences, new places traveled. It seems so strange to think that we just went though a decade.

Hopefully 2010 will be even sweeter. It’s at least starting off with a bang. In a few weeks Jon and I are going to Florida, thanks to Barb and Jeff.

Hell. Yes.

twilight

vs

There are millions of people out there who love Twilight.

And there are millions of people out there that hate Twilight.

Yes, I have read all of the Twilight books, and yes… I own them. I also own all the Harry Potter books, The Lord of the Rings, Pendragon series, etc. I love children’s lit. Any craze that makes kids read is good thing. On the other hand, sparkly vampires and unrealistic dying love and werewolves….. Things could have been deeper.

But things like this make me want to pee myself.

One of my favorite bloggers, The Naked Redhead wrote a guess blog on Professor Beej.

Dear Twilight: No, Really. YOU Hang Up.

Thumbs up, TNR.

If anyone can name where that comes from, I will give you something.

A hint: released in a two cd set in 2006, on the last song of the second cd.

I like pizza, which is good, because we eat a lot of it.

Today, however, we are making a pizza.

Making a pizza as in we bought the ingredients to make a homemade pizza.

So after a near meltdown on my part which consisted of uncontrollable fits of laughter, flour everywhere, sticky hands and not knowing which day of the week it was, we produced this:

mmm pizza

mmm pizzza

 which looks scary.

It cooked and looked like this:

finished pizza

finished pizza

We forgot a before pic when we took the pizza out. It definitely tasted better than it looked.

I’m not sure if you’ve heard of vinyl art before, but it’s pretty awesome. There is some crazy stuff people have made from recycling old records. Eye Pop Art has some sweet stuff I would love to have on my walls.

You can soften the old record in your oven at 350*F for 45 seconds, taking it out and flipping it, and putting it back in for 50 seconds. It’ll be fairly hot, but you should be able to mold it with your bare hands. (But you should probably wear gloves because if the vinyl is too hot it can release some pretty nasty toxic crap).

So first off it was a bogus copy of The Earth is Not A Cold Dead Place by Explosions in the Sky. (Only because it didn’t work was this sacrificed.)

first try

I now have that children’s song that goes something like ‘my hat it has three corners, three corners has my hat’.
Next up was The Best of The Doors 1 which turned out pretty cool. I’m debating if I want to paint this one or not.

Jon painted up the first effort and managed to turn it into a pretty awesome incense holder.
I painted a ceramic object that I had been meaning to paint for awhile. Not finished yet, so no pics.
I’ll leave this post with a candid pic.
For the record, melted vinyl doesn’t make a good hat. (laaaaame pun)

I am in love with Arcade Fire, specifically their album Funeral.

And just because Arcade Fire + David Bowie is a whole ‘nother level.

Takes a lot of effort when it’s been gloomy for the past eon.

Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration. But, really? This has got to be one of the dullest crappiest rainiest Octobers in memory.

I’m definitely in the mood to sit, and quite contently do nothing lately. This does not bode well for this early on into the winter that hasn’t even started yet.

Our turtles may or may not be currently mating. The male, Dewberry, likes to sit and watch the other turtle for hours and then swim up to her sloooowly and proceed to have this fucking spasm where he takes his front claws and shakes them for all their worth. If I ever can catch this on video, it’s definitely going on here. (Because who wouldn’t like watching a video of turtle foreplay…? no.)

If I was a child,
and I saw these?
There would be hell for my parents until I had a pair of these strapped on my feet.

They roar AND the LED light goes off in the eye when you step down.

Please, someone get them to make adult sizes.

Feast of Kings. September 12, 2009

I just made an awesome dinner.

Sautéed chicken in garlic olive oil with diced onions, baked with pesto jack cheese with noodles and broccoli, seasoned with various
peppers and herbs.

No prep. Just walked in the kitchen and dug around for some food, and this is what came out forty minutes later.

Jon called me a level ten chef. (Someone’s been playing too many video games.)

Today, I win.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time! September 8, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — TheDemanda @ 10:25 pm

Actually, no. Just peanut butter time.

The concept of jelly is easy enough to understand.

Smear fruit on a piece of something (generally bread).  I get that.

But WHO in the history of the world thought of taking peanuts and mashing-smashing-grinding-watering so many of them at once to make a gooey pastey substance? This stuff doesn’t look anything like butter. Butter of peanut? I think not.

You didn’t go milk a peanut plant and shake  that juice into butter now, did you?

Peanut butter. Odd concept. Amazing product.

(Nutella, you are exempt from this debate because I believe you were purely formed from some sort of celestial being.)

I love things that make you go “what?” What are some of your things that make you wonder?

30 Before 30 September 3, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — TheDemanda @ 9:04 am

A few blogs I follow, like the naked redhead, created a mini craze about the idea of thinking of thirty things you want to accomplish in your life before you turn the age of thirty. I’ve been tossing the idea around for awhile, and finally decided to bite it and write my own.

Further presenting:

TheDemanda’s 30 Before 30:

1. Go to an exotic country, like Greenland or Antarctica.

2. Take a weeklong cruise somewhere.

3. Get a cat.

4. Get a six pack abs. With pictures to prove it.

5. Graduate college. This may take awhile at the rate I’m going.

6. Publish a book.

7. Go on a ridealong with a cop.

8. Skydive.

9. Truly not worry about money.

10. Buy a little black dress.

11. Set up a scholarship or anonymously give money to someone who needs it.

12. Go to one of those driving places where you can go as fast as you want.

13. Learn to like beer.

14. Go to Portland, Oregon. (Seems like a pretty cool place.)

15. Buy a Rosetta Stone program and learn a weird language.

16. Learn how to NOT worry so much.

17. Go to a concert. (No, I still have not gone to a live concert yet. This is embarrassing.)

18. Pay off all my student loans.

19. Buy a house.

20. Take riding lessons.

21. Be known for something.

22. Go on a spontaneous road trip.

23. Actually finish/beat a video game.

24. Donate money to help an exhibit at a zoo. (For a fun creature like a penguin or an otter.)

25. Go to the Shedd Aquarium.

26. Reconnect with a lost friend or two.

27. Stand up in someone’s wedding.

28. Finish my worlds’ largest crossword puzzle. (This will take years.)

29. Get a domain up and KEEP it sustained this time.

30. Visit Machu Picchu.

What do you want to do by the time you hit your milestone age?
